Yet, Will I Trust Him!?!
The minor prophet Habakkuk states in 3:17-18 that although fruit is not in the trees or vines, food cannot be found in the fields, and livestock is not in the barns – he will rejoice anyway. Not in food or material possessions but his joy will be in the favor and salvation of ‘his’ God. That’s God with a capital G, and not in other gods or idols.
Food is a vital necessity to live and in Biblical times there were no grocery stores that you could just walk to or get public assistance. Once your storehouse was empty, once a famine was in the land, this could spelled the death of thousands. Yet, the prophet Habakkuk declares that not only will he trust God but he would rejoice as well, and then referred to God as salvation meaning he knew he would be saved. How many of us truly rejoice in our tribulations?
The Bible states that tribulations bring forth patience then experience then hope….. The apostles say to not be dismayed when fiery trials happen. They find joy in their sufferings. Yet today many are broken, hopeless, discouraged, depressed, doubtful, lost hope & faith, and turn away from God the minute something goes wrong. Things such as job loss, divorce, break-ups, illness, the death of a loved one, unforeseen events shake are very core and immediately cause us to loose faith. Job experienced tremendous devastating loss and unspeakable suffering in chapter 1 and had to wait until chapter 42 for his situation to turn around even when all others lost hope in God, Job’s belief that God’s salvation would happen and even declared God as ‘good’ throughout his darkest time.
God cannot lie and promises that all things work together for good and does not want us to loose faith in His favor and salvation as the Israelites so often did. Shadrach before being put in the furnace declared out loud before the king that EVEN IF their God did not save them that they would still trust him. How many of us can say this when literally faced with persecution, loss of freedom, and terminal illness? So let us hold firm to our faith, our God, and His promises of deliverance and restoration even in our darkest moments just as Habakkuk did and not only believe but find joy and rejoice because are God is an awesome God. Hope to the end for the DIVINE favor that IS COMING to you. In 1 Peter 1:13 Jehoahaz actively sought God’s favor and the Lord listened. In 2 Kings 13:4. Stayed that it is very important to not only believe but to actively seek God’s favor and especially expect the return of Christ.
