Learn How to Talk to the king (lower case ‘k’)

What’s up Beautiful?

This lesson is taken from the Holy Bible Nehemiah 2:1-9 NIV

Note that in this book, Nehemiah mentions in the last verse of chapter one that he is cupbearer to the king. Although this is a servitude position which some consider of low degree such as a maid, this position is very high I think because it gives you daily direct access to the highest person in the land. (It’s not what you know or fancy job title but who you know & who knows ‘of’ you). Sidebar: Isn’t it amazing that what society considered the lowliest person on the totem pole had more access with the king than lawyers, priest, and governors.

Anyway, note in chapter 2 that the king paid so much regular attention to his servant cupbearer that he even noticed that his demeanor was off. That Nehemiah was sad. When the king was thoughtful enough to inquire of Nehemiah’s well being, Nehemiah knew how to talk to the king.

First, Nehemiah praised and complimented king Artaxerxes by saying ‘long live the king.

Second, when the king was concerned to ask what he wanted, Nehemiah was wise enough to pray first. We should all pray first before we open our mouths especially in the presence of kings and the King. Notice verse 4 Nehemiah said “Then I prayed to the God of Heaven and I answered the king.”

The king then used his power to give Nehemiah things that probably high career men did have like clearance papers to move about the lands without being accosted. Most importantly we see in Chapter 2:9 the king sent Nehemiah with army officers and calvary (for protection). The king must have thought a lot of his cupbearer and mist have wanted him to return back safely. This meant he was really good at his job, trustworthy with the king’s life, and irreplaceable!

We should all learn to be the same with other people, definitely our employer, and certainly our God!!! Amen.

Be blessed!!!
